After West Ham United’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, David Moyes said that VAR had shown “disrespect” by not awarding his team a late penalty.
Thiago Alcantara’s arm touched the ball when he assaulted Danny Ings in the area. But the match official decided to award a sport kick. At full time, West Ham manager David Moyes contacted Chris Kavanagh on the pitch.
VAR Niel Swarbrick did not instruct Kavanagh to look into the situation, which infuriated Moyes. The difference, in my opinion, is that if you lunge and are out of control in the tackle, it is your own responsibility. You’ll probably hear them claim that Thiago needed to stop his fall.
He further added, “I think the hardest thing to take is the disrespect from VAR, that VAR wouldn’t have at least said to the referee that this might be worth having a look.”
“Whoever it was chose not to send the referee [to the pitchside monitor]. VAR, for me, showed no respect whatsoever to us.”
West Ham – Liverpool H2H
Matches Played – 54
Draws – 10
Total Wins For West Ham – 10
Total Wins For Liverpool – 34
The two clubs at the London Stadium had just had a comeback in fortunes. And they displayed their rediscovered confidence in a fun match. However, the match also exposed the weaknesses that had led to their normally disappointing campaigns.
Since winning the league double over Liverpool in 2015-16, West Ham have gone winless in their previous ten Premier League meetings with the Reds (two draws and eight losses).
Liverpool have won four of their past five away league games against West Ham (drew one). And are hoping to make it three in a row for the first time since 2003-07.
Only Manchester City (80 points) and Chelsea (66 points) have won more Premier League points in 2021 than West Ham (62). West Ham have already won the most points in a single calendar year in the tournament. In the end, Liverpool prevailed, making it three straight victories in league play.
Other VAR Controversy Related To West Ham
A headed goal by West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma and a penalty by Said Benrahma in stoppage time earned a 2-0 win against Bournemouth in a feisty Premier League clash at the London Stadium.
Following a goalmouth scuffle, Frenchman Zouma flicked the ball in from close range on the stroke of halftime, with the attempt permitted following a VAR assessment despite a suspicion of handball by his defence partner Thilo Kehrer in the frenzy.
