After not being selected by England for the upcoming internationals, James Ward-Prowse, who plays for West Ham, was given the recommendation by Gabby Agbonlahor to join a “big club.”
After making an impression in his first few appearances for the Hammers after coming to the London Stadium for £30 million from Southampton, Gareth Southgate did not select him for the matches against Scotland and Ukraine. The 28-year-old made an impression in his first few outings for the Hammers after transferring to the London Stadium from Southampton.
On September 7, when talkSPORT guest Tom Skinner questioned why Ward-Prowse wasn’t chosen, analyst Agbonlahor responded that the midfielder needed to sign with a “big club” but also later acknowledged that the player should be in the team.
Skinner questioned, “Ward-Prowse is brilliant—how come he isn’t getting picked for England as well?”
“Because he’s at West Ham,” Agbonlahor retorted. He must go to a big club. But he deserves to be on the team. Although Agbonlahor may have merely stated that to irritate West Ham supporter Skinner, there may be some truth to what he said.

The pundit recently made fun of the Hammers’ trophy-winning team by asserting that Aston Villa’s teams over the past two seasons had been superior to the Irons’ club that won the Europa Conference League in June. The fact that Ward-Prowse plays for the East Londoners comes after Declan Rice spent a number of years representing his country while donning claret and blue, so he most certainly hasn’t lost out on getting chosen for England.
West Ham Youngster Krisztian Hegyi Exhibits London Stadium Ambition
Although Krisztian Hegyi may not be widely known to West Ham fans right now, that may change over the next few months. The 20-year-old goalie has been a member of the Hammers’ roster since 2019 but has yet to play for the first squad.
Given that he has Alphonse Areola, the new number one, and Lukasz Fabianski in front of him, this is not entirely unexpected. But now that he is playing senior football for the first time at Stevenage on loan, the young player is causing a stir. In the EFL Cup first-round match last month, Hegyi made an outstanding late save to deny Watford a late winner before saving a penalty as Stevenage won on penalties.
Hegyi will be in a much better position to compete for a spot in West Ham’s roster next season if he can continue to prove himself as a starter for Stevenage at League One level. Though it might be a few years off, don’t be shocked if Hegyi becomes well-known at the London Stadium in the future.
