Ian Bishop has expressed concern about West Ham’s hiring practises and expressed sympathy with Lucas Paqueta. The excitement was apparent when West Ham signed the deft Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta for a club record £51 million last summer. Since his transfer from Lyon, Paqueta has earned the nickname “Brazilian magnifico” among West Ham supporters.
But the truth is that, until relatively recently. He had not done much on the pitch to merit that nickname from the Hammers supporters. The midfielder admitted that it has not been easy for him to be at the team. In contrast, Paqueta asserted that he has “100% adapted to the Premier League.” Paqueta has been a star performer for West Ham during their most recent comeback.
David Moyes reacted to those remarks by saying he had ‘a lot more to improve on’. With West Ham trailing Palace 4-3 at the weekend, Moyes substituted Paqueta, much to the chagrin of Hammers fans. Fans thought the substitution was strange because Paqueta is one of the few West Ham players. Who are capable of creating and netting goals from open play at the moment.
David Moyes Admits Having Issues With Creativity
Even after the game, Moyes expressed his concern over his team’s lack of originality in open play. One former Hammers player who was adept at fusing deft touches with a willingness to pitch in has now made his voice heard.
West Ham’s Ian Bishop feels awful for Paqueta and has voiced serious concerns about the team’s hiring practises. Bishop questioned Moyes’ strategy and choice to remove Michail Antonio from the pitch in the middle of the contest. He thinks that Paqueta must be perplexed as to why West Ham signed him in the summer.
According to Lyon’s president, they were selling Paqueta to teams in a desperate attempt to make money and escape FFP sanctions. Sceptics would counter that West Ham only got Paqueta in the height of the summer. Supporters were let down by the resurgence and Moyes’ risk-averse play against Palace. Given that there is still work to be done to stay in the top flight. West Ham fans can only hope that it was due to tiredness.
And Bishop makes an important point about recruitment, “To buy a playmaker in a counter attacking system says there is something either wrong with recruitment or the tactics. Which have fear written all over them. This season anyway.”
Paqueta admitted that he has had difficulties since joining the Hammers Club. And Paqueta has promised to keep taking English lessons in order to get better and repay the love and confidence that West Ham supporters have shown in him since the beginning.
