To strengthen his weak defense, West Ham manager David Moyes wants to purchase Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United this summer. For Moyes’ club, who just recently secured their place in the Premier League after placing sixth and seventh in the two seasons prior, it has been a difficult season.
The squad may win its first significant trophy in 43 years after making it to the Europa Conference League final, where they will play Fiorentina on June 7. All season long, West Ham’s defense has been frail, especially at right-back, where first-choice Thilo Kehrer and Ben Johnson have performed poorly while Vladimir Coufal has struggled with his form.
In order to strengthen that position, Moyes has set his sights on Wan-Bissaka, whose future at Old Trafford is uncertain. The 25-year-old had featured sparingly in the first part of the season owing to injury, and Erik ten Hag preferred Diogo Dalot in defense, so at one time it looked like he might leave United.
However, since the World Cup, Wan-Bissaka has reclaimed his spot in the first squad, appearing in 32 games and helping United win the Carabao Cup and reach the FA Cup final.
Will Wan-Bissaka Join The West Ham Side?
Though the Englishman has been regarded as one of the best one-on-one defenders in the world, Ten Hag is still trying to expand his alternatives at right-back. It is unclear, however, whether the defender will be a part of Ten Hag’s future plans.
However, as Wan-Bissaka’s contract expires in 2024, there may not be another opportunity for Man United to sell the full-back, though they do have the option to extend it by another year. Time is running out for Man United to decide on Wan-Bissaka’s future.
Like West Ham, Crystal Palace is interested in re-signing the graduate of its academy that they sold to United for £50 million in 2019. The Wolves’ Max Kilman and Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie are reportedly on the radar for the Irons, who are also rumored to be seeking for a new center-back in the upcoming transfer window.
The Hammers have had trouble defending this season, giving up 53 goals in 37 Premier League games. This summer, Moyes plans to bolster West Ham’s defense by bringing in Wan-Bissaka. The right defender has played 32 times for Manchester United this year across all leagues, including 18 Premier League games.
In an effort to continue on their successful Europa Conference League campaign and go back up the standings the following season, Wan-Bissaka’s skill set is considered as suitable for helping to beef up their backline.
