Scott McTominay, a midfielder for Manchester United, should have been recruited by West Ham United in this summer transfer window, according to Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand. After selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million, the Hammers had a successful transfer window, signing players like James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, and Mohammed Kudus.
However, several targets were missed, including Hugo Ekitike of Paris Saint-Germain and Harry Maguire of Manchester United. McTominay was also heavily linked to West Ham during the whole summer transfer window, but negotiations between the Hammers and Manchester United fell through.
Under Erik ten Hag, the 26-year-old has quickly moved down the food chain. Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and now Sofyan Amrabat are preferred by the management. McTominay has only started 10 games for Manchester United in the Premier League so far this year, and he has played only seven minutes of football overall.
McTominay is worth £40 million and Scott, on the other hand, can be a terrific player on his day, as seen by his recent performances for Scotland. The midfielder has six goals in five games in Euro 2024 qualification, putting Scotland to the top of their group. Ferdinand thinks that West Ham missed out on signing McTominay and that he would have done so if he had been in charge at the London Stadium.
Wolves Eyeing To Sign Jesse Lingard Ahead Of West Ham
Jesse Lingard, a free agent who still trains with West Ham United, is in “really good condition,” according to David Moyes. The Hammers and Wolverhampton Wanderers are two teams who have thought about giving the former England international a contract, but as of right now, he is still without a team.
As a result of spending the second part of the 2020–21 season on loan at the London Stadium, Lingard has already made one appearance for West Ham. Under Moyes, he put in some standout performances, scoring nine goals and dishing out five assists in 16 games to help the London team reach the Europa League.
Go Deeper: West Ham’s Insider Update On Moyes’ Decision To Re-Sign Jesse Lingard
That summer, the Hammers made an effort to recruit Lingard long-term, but he ultimately chose to stay with Manchester United. When the 30-year-old’s contract with the Red Devils expired last summer, Moyes’ squad was once more mentioned in connection with the player. In the end, Lingard decided to turn down their offers and join Nottingham Forest.
But Wolves are also contemplating giving Lingard a new contract, so they may make a last-minute move for him. It’s clear from Moyes’ assessment in training that the former Manchester United player has not impressed the manager much. However, he would not confirm if West Ham will sign him or not. As of now, Wolves have expressed interest in Lingard, but West Ham remain the favorites to sign him. In the next weeks, it will be intriguing to watch if they do extend him a new deal.
